Auditions

Registration is now open for our June 16 for our fall audition season: High School Musical Jr (ages 8-18), Once Upon a Mattress (ages 13-adult), and A Charlie Brown Christmas (select youth).

BEFORE YOU AUDITION

Please read the information below prior to registering for auditions, including the “how to prepare for auditions” section below the show titles. Still have questions? Contact us.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR AUDITIONS

Please prepare 1 minute of a song from a Broadway show or other musical that best showcases your voice. Please do not sing a song from the show you are auditioning for, unless you have special permission. You will be asked to submit the instrumental track for your song on the registration form. Songs cannot have vocals - we only want to hear you.

Upload your headshot to the registration form. You cannot audition without a headshot. Please do not bring them to auditions, but rather upload it onto the form or email it to hello@royalstage.org. If you do not have a headshot, any photo that clearly shows your face is fine. Don’t spend money on photos!

Come dressed to dance. We may or may not hold a dance audition at auditions/callbacks. Please plan accordingly.

Familiarize yourself with the show music. If you receive a callback, you will need to likely sing a section of a song from the show, and it benefits everyone if you are familiar.

Compare your calendar to the dates listed above. Tech week and shows are mandatory. We strongly discourage missing rehearsals, and it may affect the role you can perform. Please plan ahead now for the above-listed Saturday rehearsals, tech week, and shows.

Breathe! You won’t be called to every single rehearsal; you are already in the show, and you are about to have a lot of fun!

It is Royal Stage’s policy to accept everyone, regardless of financial status. Fall-Spring Scholarships are available for those who can prove financial need via our scholarship application.

Participation FAQs

Q: As an adult, I do not agree with “pay to play” theater. Why do you have a participation fee?

A: We are a ministry and educational theater, which means we accept all participants into our programming. We use the registration fee to support the production costs. If you consider yourself to be an accomplished actor or professional who should not be charged this fee, then please shoot us an email to hello@royalstage.org stating what contribution you would make to this show that would warrant a fee waiver. We also offer scholarships to those who cannot afford to participate otherwise - the link is just above this FAQ.

We are more than willing to communicate and find a solution.

We do not charge a participation fee for our Select shows, where not everyone receives a role. These are our pre-professional productions.

Q: Will I receive a better role if I pay the registration fee? Likewise, will I receive a lesser role if I am on scholarship?

A: No. Financial information is not shared with our casting team.

Q: Is there a discount for family members?

A: Yes. There is a $15 discount for siblings and spouses.

Q: Will I have to attend every single rehearsal?

A: No. Your rehearsal schedule depends upon what role you receive.

Q: Are you double casting this show?

A: It depends on which show it is, how many people sign up, and who the director is. Our mainstage musicals are typically double cast, at least partially. Our Select shows are not.

Q: I have to miss tech week or a performance. What do I do?

A: Unfortunately, nobody is permitted to miss a tech day or a performance date (except possibly if they are double-cast). Please audition for a future show when your schedule is clear.

Q: I have a different question

A: Great! Reach out.
